Theresa Elisabeth Brown (Nee Hamilton) was born at DeWinton, Alberta on April 9, 1926 and passed away at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Center on October 21, 2022 at the age of 96.
Theresa is survived by her children Helana (Gerry) O’Neill, Terry Brown, Murray (Cheryl) Brown, and Penny Brown, Grand children Theresa (Terry), Calvin (Kim), Zac, Ben, Averoe (Steven) and Grady, Great Grand Children, Tamara, Jori, Conner, Nathan, Ethan, August and Theodore.
She was pre-deceased by her Son Larry Brown, Her husband Menno and grandson Jerraco.
Theresa was born on the farm in the DeWinton area to her parents Samuel Hamilton and Mary (nee) Meehan. She had one younger brother, John who was 1 year younger than her. She went to school from grades 1-9 at Stormont School and DeWinton School from 10 – 11. She helped on the farm with training horses for chuckwagons and outriding. When her father became ill, her mother had to take over the farming operation. Theresa then had to take over the household chores, while her brother helped with the farm chores. Her father died when she was sixteen.
She moved to Calgary when she was seventeen and took office courses at the Business College. She started work on May 22, 1944 at the Calgary Herald and worked for 5.5 years there. She met and married Menno William Brown on November 17, 1949. Menno was in the military based in Calgary at Curry. They had 5 Children – Helana, Larry, Terry, Murray and Penny. They lived in Calgary, Whitehorse, Edmonton, Wainwright and the last move was to Black Diamond in August of 1969. When she stayed in the same house for 50 years until her move to the Willow Creek Continuing Care Center in Claresholm.
Mom loved camping, fishing, riding horses, curling and chuckwagon racing. She also loved to play cards and doing puzzles. When she was able, she loved to visit her home farm and visiting with family.
As, per Theresa’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in Theresa’s memory can be made to Claresholm Health Foundation, (designating to Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre).
