Obituary of Sylvia Anna Gillam
Sylvia Anna Gillam (Hulan)
May 3, 1942 – February 5, 2022
She’s graceful and she’s charming
As the lilies in the pond
Time is swiftly passing by
Of her I am quite fond…
Sylvia Anna Gillam,
in the presence of her daughters
We say goodbye until we join you in heaven. To our much-loved mother, who herself was a daughter, granddaughter, sister, cousin, aunt, wife, mother, mother-in-law, confident, loving grandmother, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, and friend. Sylvia was all these and more in her 79 years. It is with great sadness that the family of Sylvia announces her passing at the Bradford Valley Long Term Care Home, in Bradford, Ontario.
Sylvia joins her husband of 53 years, Herman Spencer Gillam, who passed in July 2015. She leaves to mourn her daughters: Loretta (Clowie) Rolfe (David) and Gail Gillam Campbell(John); grandchildren: Zach Rolfe, Eve -Ann Rolfe, Mackenzie Campbell, Spencer Campbell, and Madison Campbell; brothers: Allison Hulan(Theresa), Avery Hulan(Lorna), Duncan Hulan(Phyllis), Gordon Hulan(Rosemary), and Daniel Hulan(Elizabeth); sisters: Sharon MacDonald(Leo), Katherine Rogers(Owen); brother-in-law: Dermot Rogers(Jocelyn-deceased), Bob Short(Mary-deceased); Mother-in-Law: Rachel Mckay; sister-in-law: Valerie Cassell(Ross-deceased) and Rhoda Howe(Warren-deceased) and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Sylvia is predeceased by her parents Howard and Mary Margaret Maghetta (Polly) Hulan (Legge) of Mckays, her Beloved sisters Shirley Fillatre(William) and Jocelyn Rogers; sister-in-laws: Mary Short, Una Hulan(Rodney),Gladys (Gordon)Clare.
Her grandchildren will remember her kind and doting nature. They were always, her pride and joy, and have missed her deeply, over the years. Sylvia had been a resident of Bradford valley long-term care, in Bradford, Ontario since September of 2014. She was cared for by the devoted and dedicated staff to Alzheimer’s and dementia residents on the Harvest House wing. Who were unwavering in their tender loving care and attentiveness.
In keeping with Sylvia’s wishes cremation has taken place. There are no plans for a celebration of Life or internment at this time. The family will come together in the summer of this year in Mckays, Newfoundland to honor Sylvia’s life and passing…when COVID restrictions allow. As an expression of sympathy, if one so chooses donations may be made to the Saint George’s Anglican Church, Robinson’s (Memorial Fund).
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
by Mary Frye

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Sylvia
