Sylvia’s Obituary
Crowell, Sylvia Lorraine of Middleton, N.S.
Sylvia believed that Mom and Nanny were the best job titles one could have. She loved her family unconditionally. She followed the lives of her two children, five grandchildren and a great-grandchild closely, mastering FaceTime and Facebook late in life to keep up with their activities.
Sylvia Crowell died peacefully on November 13, 2022, with her children Sandra and Tom by her side. Together they felt the enormous privilege of finally caring for their mother as she had always cared for them.
Sylvia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bob. Through his service in the Air Force, they lived in many communities across Canada, often far from their hometown of Clark’s Harbour, NS. No matter how many times they moved, Bob always told Sylvia “It doesn’t matter where we live. To me, home is wherever you are.” For her family, truer words were never spoken. Their final stop was Middleton, where Sylvia lived at home, well after Bob’s passing, into her 90th year. She was an active volunteer at her church and in the community for many years.
Nanny spoke softly, lived modestly, and loved totally. Yet she sent a loud and clear message to all who knew her about what really makes up a rich and fulfilled life. She further enriched the lives of those around her with her expressive poetry and creative paintings.
Sylvia is survived by her children, Sandra (Jamie Baillie) and Tom (Edith Rogers); sister, Judy (Sheldon Bell); and her grandchildren, Alexandra and Hannah Baillie, and Madeleine (Mitch Stewart), Paige and Iain Crowell; and great-granddaughter, Meredith Sylvia Stewart. She is also survived by her nieces, Sherry Atkinson and Lynn Jones; and her nephew, David Bell. She was predeceased by her parents, Ina and Thomas Nickerson; and her siblings, Thomas Nickerson, Augusta (Victor) Maxwell and George (Dora) Manzer.
Sylvia’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 19, at 1 p.m. in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448.
