Sylvia Mathilda Giroux
We are very saddened to announce the passing of our wonderful Wife and Mother Sylvia Mathilda Giroux (nee Radtke) at Miramichi Lodge on Wednesday May 4th, 2022. Sylvia was the loving wife of 72 years to Emile Joseph Giroux, mother of their five children Patricia Charette (late Robert M.), David, Paul (Helen), Daniel (Rebecca), Peter (Deborah) and grandmother of eleven grandchildren Manya, Nicole, Connor, Andrea, Julia, Alex, Jesse, Angela, Derek, Mallory, Brittany and great grandmother of thirteen great grandchildren. Sylvia was a sister to Phyllis Schwantz (late Elmer) and Mona Fraser (Ron). Predeceased by her parents Paul and Augusta Radtke and sisters Vera and Marion Jackson (late Floyd) and her brother Earl.
Sylvia was born on May 13th, 1930, and grew up on the Radtke Farm in Petawawa. She married Emile on June 17th, 1950, and together they started the partnership of Emile Giroux Travel Services, and later Emerald Travel and Tours. They travelled the world, allowing and helping many thousands to share these great experiences.
Sylvia was a lady of many talents, cooking, sewing, quilting, playing bridge, but mostly it was her love of flowers and plants that occupied her time and was her passion. Always seen with a pair of gardening gloves, the straw hat and the green garden trowel in her hand, she brought the land alive with beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees. Her yard glowed with colour. Floral arrangements were her specialty, bursting with creativity. So great was her passion that she went on to study from Kemptville College to be a Master Gardner. This allowed her to travel to County Fairs and shows to evaluate competitions, being a Flower Judge. Silvia was a Life Member of the Pembroke Horticultural Club offering them and the Community over 55 years of voluntary service. This Spring she received Provincial Recognition for these many, many years of service.
We wish to thank most sincerely, the staff of 2B at Miramichi Lodge, for their kindness, support, understanding and patience, as Mom dealt with the dreaded disease of Dementia. Interment St. Columba’s Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to Holy Name of Jesus Restoration Fund, Pembroke Horticultural Society of Miramichi Lodge would be appreciated.
