Obituary of Suzanna Flynn
In Loving Memory of Suzanna Flynn
It is with heavy and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend, Suzanna Flynn, at the age of 90 years. Mom resided at The Acadian Village Retirement Centre, Stephenville, NL, for nearly three years. She passed peacefully away on April 21, 2022, at the Palliative Care Unit, Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville, NL, in the presence of her loving family.
Mom, affectionally known as “Suzie Q” was a proud mother of 12 children, 23 grandchildren and 26 great- grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends and acquaintances.
She is predeceased by her husband, Roderick, and son Robert (Robbie). She is also the last surviving member of her own family starting with her father, Thomas Greene and mother, Philomena (nee Cox) Greene. Brothers; William, George (Janet), Thomas (Marjorie), Patrick, Stephen (Edna), Aloysius (June) and Harold. Sisters; Marion Bullen (Gordon), Kathleen Snook (Henry James), Philomena Cornect (John James), Stella (Glen Thorne), Laverna Smith (Terry), and Sarah Hinks (Reginald).
Leaving to mourn are her daughters; Dolores (Georgina Long), Philomena (Jerome Walsh), Belinda (Chad Lainey), Mary (Chuck Cheng), and Amanda (Terry LePrieur). Sons; Brian (Ada), Dave (Venecia), Larry (Sandy), Damian (Tina), Stephen (Wanda), and Perry (Cheryl).
Mom loved everything about family and spent a lifetime of devotion to her calling. She was a fabulous cook, seamstress, knitter, and could make a dollar stretch in ways still unknown to her family. She loved her communities of Lourdes and West Bay and was well known to all near and far. She drew her strength from her faith and was a proud member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL). She loved to dance and sing, playing cards, bingo and hitting the triple 19 on any dart board. She loved a good time and would measure a night of success by how many dances she had at the end of the evening. She didn’t particularly like to travel but loved opportunities to see family and friends throughout Canada and Newfoundland. Always leaving a trail of life-long friends along the way. Her family home was always welcoming to anyone who entered, and never would anyone leave without a cup of tea and any special treats she had secretly stored for such occasions. Any friends of her children were friends of her. She loved to see them come and visit and would spend time story telling and adding jokes and smiles along the way. She and Dad were foster parents to several individuals with intellectual disabilities and they also supported children and youth at risk. All were welcomed into our home. She was also welcomed into other homes as a home support worker. A job she loved as it gave her great pleasure to care for others. Susie Q you were one “classy lady!”
In addition to her loving children, she held a special and tender bond with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved them all unconditionally and together they shared a loving and tender bond known only to each other. They, and we, will miss her terribly.
Our family wishes to thank the staff at The Acadian Village for her care and support. A special thank you to her friend, Judy Rowe, who was a true friend to her and her family. We also wish to thank the staff of The Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital for their excellent care to our mother during the last few days of her life.
Visitation will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Church from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, April 25, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Lourdhu Raju Mandanu officiating. Burial will follow at the Tea Cove Cemetery in West Bay. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Lourdes Grotto.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Suzanna
