It is with deep heartache and profound sadness that the family of Sue Moffat announce her passing. Sue commenced her journey peacefully, at a time of her choosing, surrounded by her loving family.
Sue was born in 1946 in Budapest, Hungary. She fled Hungary with her parents and younger brother during the 1956 revolution, an arduous journey hiking through the mountains at night to reach Austria. Sue and her family eventually settled in Canada.
In 1977 Sue married Mike and they went on to experience many adventures together, including living in Cambridge Bay, NU and Inuvik, NT before moving to Nelson in 1993. Together they travelled the world and made many good friends along the way.
Family meant everything to Sue and she was thrilled when both of her daughters followed her and Mike to Nelson. She cherished every moment she had with her daughters, grandchildren, and the recent bright light in her life, her two year old great-grandson. She was exceedingly generous and loved to cook delicious Hungarian meals for her family and friends. She was always willing to lend a hand to others.
Mike and Sue eventually retired from work and travel and settled into life with their French Bulldog Holly. During this time Sue rediscovered her love of bridge, spending many hours at the Seniors Centre with her friends.
Sue was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Eva Sommers, and her younger brother Mike Sommers Jr. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 45 years Mike, daughters Bryna and Shawna (Richard), stepdaughter Lisa (Lyall), grandchildren Alyssa (Dotan), Dane, Colton and Ty, great-grandson Benjamin, and many friends and family members.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mieske and the wonderful nursing staff at Kootenay Lake Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. McBride and Shannon Perger, who were so caring in Sue’s final moments.
By request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation.
Sue will be greatly missed and forever loved.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Susanna Moffat October 28 1946
