It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful father, Sucha Singh Thandi, on July 13th, 2022 at the age of 82. Husband of the late Abnash Kaur Thandi.
Sucha Singh was born in Daulatpur, Punjab, India on December 9th, 1939. He was 1 of 4 siblings born to Sadda Singh and Sham Kaur. After completing college, he started his career as a corporate bank inspector for many years. He married our mother in 1962, they resided in the village of Daulatpur where they had two daughters. In 1970, after being sponsored by our mother’s youngest brother, Mohinder and Joginder Sundher, who lived in Sooke, BC, the family immigrated to Canada.
Sucha worked for Maplewood Poultry (Lilydale Poultry) alongside his wife for many years, before starting his own cleaning business. After a short two years in Canada, they were able to achieve a great milestone by purchasing their first home in Victoria, BC. During this time, they welcomed two new children and lived a life full of love, happiness and laughter. Our Dad was passionate about his family, friends and his community. He was always willing to lend a hand to families in need and enjoyed spending his time at the senior center at the Gurdwara. Dad was an integral to the upbringing of his grandchildren and always spoiled them with love and kindness. He enjoyed listening to the Punjabi radio and news, along with a good meal and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered for his sharp style, wit, charismatic personality, great stories and love.
Sucha is survived by his loving family, Ronnie Grewal (Sunny), Paula Uppal (Frank), Shon Thandi (Raman), Gurjit Bolina (Inderjeet), along with his grandchildren, Kevin Uppal, Sonia Uppal, Steven Grewal (Raveena), Aneil Grewal (Aneesha), Jason Thandi, Ryan Thandi, Amyra Bolina, and great-grandchild Maison Uppal.
Dad will be deeply missed by all that knew his gentle soul and warm smile. His lessons and love will be carried on for generations. Our entire family takes comfort in knowing that our father is again sharing the company of his beloved wife, the late Abnash Kaur Thandi.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC, on Saturday, July 23rd, 2022 at 3:00 pm. A Prayer Service will follow at Gurdwara Khalsa Diwan Society 1210 Topaz Avenue, Victoria, BC.
