It’s with much sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Stephen Joseph on Sunday, August 21, 2022, in Hospice Cape Breton surrounded by family.
Steve was born in Sydney at St Rita’s Hospital on November 18th, 1981. He was the son of Brent Campbell and Pearl Farrell.
Steve aka Achilles as his gaming friends called him, enjoyed playing video games since he was a child. Steve was exceptionally good at mastering any game he would play – not too many games got the best of Steve. Steve won many tournaments, and was even published on a popular website as a top 10 goaltender in the world, for NHL online, this was an extremely impressive accomplishment for a visually impaired person. You couldn’t touch him in any fighting style game, and he loved games that had a good storyline. He also enjoyed horror, Disney, and Braveheart movies.
Steve worked at numerous call centres over his adult life where he met many lifelong friends along the way.
Left to mourn him is his loving partner, Annette Walters and her son, Keegan. Steve, Annette, along with Annette’s son, Keegan, made a great family together. Steve and Keegan’s relationship stretched beyond stepson/stepdad – they were best friends. Steve absolutely adored Nettie and Steve was the love of Annette’s life. This was proven by the care, love and support Annette provided to Steve while he was battling cancer the past year. He also left behind his in-laws, Anna and Darrell Walters; sister-in-law, Tasha (Todd); and brother-in-law, Darrell and their children, who all meant the world to him and considered them family since day one.
Steve is survived by his dad, Brent; stepmom, Cathy; siblings, Alicia, Mitchell (Belisca), Robbie (Brittany), Courtney (Jeremy), and the late Justin; his mom, Pearl; siblings, Bradley, Melanie, Natasha and James; his Sydney Mom, Donna French, the ‘Unbreakable Diamond Lady’; her daughter, Denise (Jason); many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, especially his Magoogle “Megan”; and close friend, Cheryl.
A special thank you to Dr Oosthuizen, Dr Hussain, Dr Saliba and Dr Anne Frances D’Intino. Also a special thank you to the CB Cancer Centre, Palliative Care, VON, Blood Services, and Hospice Cape Breton for the wonderful care given to our Steve.
Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of life will be held with close friends and family at home.
