Obituary of Shirley Edith Baines
IN MEMORIAM
It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing on January 11, 2022 of Shirley Edith Baines, 82 at the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Washington Street.
Edie was born in the Old Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow on July 25, 1939. She was always proud being a descendant of the Mackay family unit., whom settled along the James Mackay Road in Toney River during the mid-1800’s.
She lived most of her life in Pictou County where her formative years were spent in Green’s Point. After graduating from New Glasgow High School, she worked with Maritime Tel & Tel in Halifax and Scotiabank, at branches both in Ontario and Pictou County.
In November 1979, Edie married Fred Baines on New Glasgow and raised their combined families on Washington Street.
She was a member of the Aberdeen Hospital ladies Auxiliary, but health issues prevented a long service. She was a life honored member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in New Glasgow and continued her sorority membership while wintering in Florida.
Other passions included reading, a proficient dancer and a natural skater.
The perpetual love that she conveyed daily to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever remain in our hearts. Her quiet diplomacy nurtured a number of friends and with her passing, she will be deeply missed.
Those left to mourn and remembering her with love are her husband, Fred Baines, sons; Jason(Belinda)Mahaffey and Brud(Shannon)Mahaffey, stepchildren; Fred Baines, Charmaine Baines, Danica(Rob)Baines and Melissa Baines, grandchildren; Christina(Gary)Hubley and Nick Mahaffey, special step-grandchildren; Megan Baines and Robin Stewart, brother-in-law Ray(Franklyn)Baines, numerous nieces and nephews as well as several step-grandchildren, Vincenzo, Sara and Anthony Sotile, Genna and Tessa Bourchier, special great-grandchild, Aurora Edie Joyce Hubley.
She was predeceased by her mother Sarah MacKay, sisters; Mable Langille and Jean Anderson and a brother Raymond MacKay.
The family lovingly thanks the staff at the Glen Haven Manor for their exceptional care and love given to Edie while at the manor.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or to the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow in appreciation for the many years of loving and tender care shown to Shirley.
MOM WAS GENTLE IN LIFE AND WAS LOVED AND APPRECIATED
BY HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
MAY SHE REST IN EVERLASTING PEACE.
