Marguerite Shirley Poe (Lizotte), born in 1936 in Blind River, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 24th, 2022.
Shirley was the youngest child of Georges and Mary Lizotte (deceased) and the last of 10 siblings. Shirley spent her childhood in Blind River, but moved to Mactier at an early age where she began her working years, first at Robinson’s grocery store where she met Arden Poe (married in 1959) and then as a Bell telephone operator until choosing to be a dedicated, stay-at-home mother to Kelly Jenkins (Paul) and Brett Poe (Christine).
Arden and Shirley were married almost 50 years until his passing (August 1999). Shirley was a supportive spouse of Arden, who was a CP Rail employee. Life then brought Shirley to Brighton, Ontario, where she was closer to her cherished grandchildren Ben, Max and Sam Jenkins; Bryce and Dorian Poe; and her great-grandchildren Phoenix and Odinn. Shirley’s move allowed her to travel and volunteer at the Early Years Centre where she met many new friends.
Shirley was an aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a compassionate, caring friend and caregiver to many throughout her life.
Many, many thanks must be given to the dedicated, professional staff at Golden Plough Lodge who were entrusted with Shirley’s care during the final phase of her life during a pandemic.
A graveside service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday July 25th, 2022 at Mactier Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in honour of Shirley.

Death notice for the town of: Parry-Sound, Province: Ontario
I was lucky enough to work at the Golden Plough while Shirley was a resident. She was a wonderful lady who I lovingly nicknamed firecracker. She had a great sense of humour and made me laugh so much. She adored her children and spoke of them all the time. I will miss her high fives and hugs.
