Shirley Leona Tallin October 22nd 1945 July 16th 2022

TALLIN, Shirley Leona
October 22, 1945 – July 16, 2022
Camrose, AB – Calgary, AB
Shirley was the third child of Jacob and Rose Turner. She has two older sisters Norma and Doris and one younger brother Willard and many nephews and nieces.
Shirley grew up on a farm near Ferintosh, AB., attended school there until 1959 when they moved to Edberg, AB and finished her schooling there after the family farm was sold and her parents became caretakers of the Edberg school.
On March 16, 1963 Shirley married Gordon Tallin also from Edberg and have been married 59 years, have 3 sons; Gary, born Aug 23, 1963, Kenton, Feb 16, 1965 and Brian, July 30, 1969.
Shirley and Gordon lived in Edberg until 1965 and lived in NE Calgary in a basement suite for 4 years. We purchased our first house in 1970 on 26 street in Brentwood NW, then another house on Brockington Road in Brentwood, then a larger house on Dalmeny Bay in Dalhousie, then moved into a condo on Hawksbrow Point in Hawkwood in1996 in NW Calgary.
Shirley learned to play the piano in her early school days and had several pianos and keyboards as another hobby. Shirley learned to do many things from her family or by reading, she could sew, mend, knit and was a good cook for our family. She had many hobbies: music, cross country skiing, hiking, sewing, photography, scrapbooking, Artex paintings, water based oil paintings.
We both liked camping and when we moved to Calgary were anxious to get out into the mountains so bought a tent and made many trips to Bow Valley camp grounds. Then in the 1970’s we moved up to travel trailers so we could keep warm and dry. We joined the Calgary Chiefs Trailer club that encouraged more outings. This continued up to 1980 when we purchased a house in Dalhousie and had no room to park a trailer so we rented cabins in the Okanagan for a few years. When our children no longer travelled with us we would stay in hotels or motels.
Shirley enjoyed travel and many trips were made to BC and the Pacific NW and SW United States and have many photo albums with these trips represented. Sometimes we were able to have 3 or 4 trips in a year. We especially liked the Oregon coast area and the Okanagan region of BC.
The condo complex where we live has many activities and one that Shirley attended was a painting class and completed about 20 remarkable paintings that we have in our home or have given to our boys.
Shirley was on the Care Committee for a number of years for our complex giving out Greeting cards to welcome new people and to people who were in hospital or had been sick. Shirley made all of these cards as a hobby. She also made all of the Christmas cards that we sent out each year to our friends and relatives.
After retirement Shirley was a member of the Scrap bookers group of 8 ladies and edited and completed almost all of our photos into scrapbooks that show our travels and family history. Scrapbooking sessions were in spring and fall weekends at Cochrane or a Saturday once or twice a year at our clubhouse.
Shirley has always been a friendly type and has made many friends in our condo complex and we have served on groups that have coffee parties and suppers once a month.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Shirley Leona Tallin October 22nd 1945 July 16th 2022..
