Shirley was a gentle, kind-hearted woman. Her entire world revolved around her family and loved ones. Even when coping with her own health challenges over the years she still took a genuine interest in the lives of her loved ones. She was always checking in through texts, calls and emails wondering how their day was going. She had a long and rewarding teaching career and touched the lives of many students and colleagues at various schools in the St. John’s area and Carbonear. She loved reading and online word games and rarely lost a game of scrabble. She enjoyed a good game of bridge or rummoli, even more so when accompanied with a cup of tea, something sweet and a family gathering.
While we will miss her daily check-ins immensely, we take comfort in knowing that she passed peacefully and is no longer suffering. We are blessed to have had her in our lives for so many years. During Shirley’s life, our family has had countless gatherings and celebrations. We feel so fortunate to have had one last family get-together with her just last week which left us with even more beautiful memories that will remain our most cherished.
Cremation will take place followed by a private family visitation.
Funeral will be open to others and will take place Wednesday, June 29th, 2O22 at St . Kevin’s Church, Goulds, NL at 10:00 am. Masks required.
There will be a virtual ceremony for those not able to attend in person. The link will be provided later.
Flowers gratefully accepted or donations to a charity of your choice in memory of Shirley’s generous spirit.
