We are sad to announce our mother’s passing on July 21, 2022. Born and raised in Fredericton and Nashwaaksis, New Brunswick, Sheila moved to Montreal in the late 1950s to teach at an elementary school in the West Island and settled in Aubrey when she got married in 1962.
She loved bird watching, reading every book she could get her hands on, watching history documentaries, and spent a lot of time knitting sweaters, socks, and mitts for the family.
She was predeceased by her husband Jimmie, her daughter Cynthia, and leaves to mourn her son Alexander, daughters Heather (Frank) and Jill, grandchildren Alex (Ally), Derik, Elana (Matt), Aaron, Sasha, great-grandchildren Nathan and Emma. She is also survived by her sister Susan, sister-in-law Helen, nieces, nephews and cousins in New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario.
A special thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Maison La Source Bleue Residence as well as the staff of the Barrie Memorial Hospital for their care the last few weeks of her life. Thank you also to her friends who spoke with her on the phone, visited with her and took her treats because she “never got any!”
Donations can may made in her memory to the Women’s Auxiliary of the Barrie Memorial Hospital Donation | Women’s Auxiliary of the Barrie Memorial Hospital (damesauxiliairesbarrie.org) or the Betty Riel Foundation (31 Dixon Street, Huntingdon, QC, J0S 1H0).
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
