Sharon’s Obituary
Simons, Sharon Gale – Our hearts are sad. Sharon left us peacefully in the early morning hours of November 2, 2022 at the age of 66, after only a brief four-week hospitalization. Sharon was born on February 27, 1956. She grew up in Collingwood, raised by her grandmother, Grace Simons. Besides her grandmother, she is predeceased by her mother, Jean (Glen) Benjamin and her father, James Kilbride. Left to remember her are her Benjamin siblings, Bruce, Peggy, Donna, Mark and Grant, and her Kilbride siblings, Vera, Heather, Laura, Mark, Michael and Patrick. Sharon had an extra-large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Some of Sharon’s greatest moments of joy came from supporting and loving her special “little” people. She will be missed by her niece, Tina Powers; nephews, Jordan and Bradley Chambers and the many, many children of her cousins. Whether it was gifting them special treasures, supporting them at sporting and other events, or visiting with them at the beach, Sharon was a loving presence in their lives. Sharon had a 34-year career at Windsor Salt in Pugwash until 2011. Following her retirement from Windsor Salt she became employed with Chignecto Central Regional School Board in administrative assistant roles; positions that brought her much happiness as she got to make meaningful connections with the children of many local schools in her community. Sharon was an AVON representative for years and as such had many customers who she also considered friends. In her younger years Sharon loved to curl. She was a maker of knit socks. She was a member of the Collingwood United Church. She faithfully supported the River Phillip-Collingwood Terry Fox run and the Painted Ladies Relay for Life Team. She was an avid supporter of community entrepreneurs, businesses, and fundraising organizations. Her friends and family will gather to share memories from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, November 12 at MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Oxford. This will be followed by a private family graveside service. Donations in Sharon’s memory are requested to be made to the Rose Cemetery.
A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove… but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.” – Forest E. Witcraft
