Semen Sam Desiatnyk 2022 avis de deces

1943 –2022
It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Semen (Sam) Desiatnyk on May 20th 2022, in his 80th year, surrounded by his family.
Sam passed away at the Royal Victoria Hospital after a long struggle with a weak and deteriorating heart. He is survived by his brother, Anatole Desiatnyk (Brenda Bartlett) and his cherished niece, Olivia Desiatnyk. Sam was pre-deceased by his parents, Paraskevia Ponomarenko and Artem Desiatnyk, and his older brother, Victor Desiatnyk.
Sam was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine during World War II. After the war, his parents re-settled the family in France and in 1951, they emigrated to Canada. Sam grew up with his family in Lachine, attending John Grant High School and Sir George Williams University (now Concordia University). He was a proud Ukrainian-Canadian, spoke 3 languages, and was a devoted believer of the Ukrainian Orthodox faith. Sam became an accomplished Ukrainian folk-dancer in his youth and was a longstanding member in his local church choir. For sports, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in his youth, and as he got older, he enjoyed curling and bowling, participating in local leagues. His other interests included gardening, wine making and oil painting. When his only niece, Olivia, was born, he doted on her, always remembering her birthdays with special gifts, and sharing many precious moments together. His friends and neighbours will remember Sam as a kind, caring person with a generous heart, always willing to lend a helping hand. Sam will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the nurses, respiratory technicians and the doctors of the Royal Victoria Hospital ICU (Dr. Salman Qureshi) and the Respiratory ICU (Dr. Sandra Dial), for their exceptional care of Sam for the past 3 months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in memory of Sam Desiatnyk to the Intensive Care Unit(s) at The Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation tinyurl.com/sam-desiatnyk or to the Red Cross Ukrainian Aid at this link bit.ly/3MOZUYg
