Alexander (Sandy) Abernethy entered into rest with his wife, Shirley, and daughter Ruth, by his side, at 9:30 pm, on September 13th, 2022, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener. He had been the loving husband of Shirley for 67 years. Sandy was brother of the late Ellen VanBlarcom (NEE Abernethy) of Kentville, Nova Scotia, and the late Joyce Taylor (NEE Abernethy) of Bowmanville, Ontario.
Sandy will be dearly missed by his children, Ellen Abernethy, Glen Abernethy & Yvonne Carroll, Ruth Abernethy & Mark Smyth, and Jean Abernethy, and by his grandchildren, Owen Hadley & Amanda Goncalves, Avory Hadley & Matt Beatty, Dana Abernethy & Patrick Antonio, Aimee Abernethy, Nicholas Abernethy, Glen & Darling Smyth, Alex & Cassandra Smyth, Ben Hubers, and Paul Hubers. His great-granddaughter, Elysia Holly Smyth (born June 3rd, 2022) will hear stories of his remarkable life for years to come.

The funeral service will take place at Celebrations, 35 Lindsay Street N., Lindsay on Wednesday September 28th 2022 at 230 pm. Reception to follow. Interment will take place at Glenarm Cemetery, 499 Fenel Rd, Woodville, on Thursday Septemeber 29th at 11 am.
