Sandra O’Leary
1940-2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our
loving mother, Sandra Leslie O’Leary (nee Blois); dancer,
gardener, crafter, quilter, bridge player and accomplished traveler,
on Friday, May 6, 2022.
Growing up in Saint John, New Brunswick, Sandra loved her
parents Renee (Nee Hughes) and Kitchener Blois (both deceased) who
raised her and her siblings; brothers Kenny (deceased) and Kitchener
(deceased), both of whom she adored, and her younger sister, Ellen
Logan (John), whom she worshiped and shared many of life’s
moments in laughter.
She married her main squeeze and love of her life, Patrick
O’Leary (deceased), after dating in high school, and went on
to enjoy 60 years of marriage. Together they had three children;
Steven (Kathy) of Riverview, Leslie of Calgary, Paul (Lori) of
Toronto. She taught them the importance of family, friends and
enduring relationships. She ensured they always felt loved and cared
for. She was truly the foundation of the O’Leary
household.
She had a life-long love affair with dinner parties, bridge
club, the parish guild, dancing, garden tours, shopping for and
refurbishing antiques, but most of all she took joy in her family and
many friendships. She was a wonderful quilter and left behind many
beautiful handmade quilts for us to cherish and remember her by. She
took great pride in her garden, and excelled at household accounting,
outsmarting her kids, and negotiating land deals to build a new
house.
She took extreme pride in her four grandchildren; Sarah and
Patrick of Riverview and Owen and Bridgit of Toronto, and adored her
great grandchild Lucas Richardson. She doted over all of them and
cherished every visit and every
hug.
She traveled extensively. She only stayed in the finest
quality AAA-rated campgrounds, her favorite being Mactaquac! She
always encouraged Pat to spend the extra money to upgrade to a better
site.
Sandra was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1997 and
fought it courageously for over 35 years. The family would also like
to thank the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home staff who took great
care of her and Pat. They were loved and well cared
for.
Her family will be receiving friends and relatives at
Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd.
Riverview (869-2007) on Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. A
funeral service will be held at St. John The Baptist Anglican Church,
28 Woolridge St. Riverview, Friday, May 13 at 11:00 am. In lieu of
flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Parkinson
Canada.
