Sally’s Obituary
HORSNELL (Parker), Sally Ann – Age 88, of Berwick, passed away on August 24, 2022 at Grand View Manor, Berwick, N.S. Born and raised in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late Ronald Wentworth Parker and Love Bernice (Baltzer), and raised her family with her late husband, Harry Alan Horsnell, on their farm in Dempsey Corner. Besides her husband, Sally was predeceased by three of her sisters, Diane (Russell) Alcorn, Mary (Robert) Patten, and Donna McGill. She is survived by her sister Holly (Alan) Cole, sister-in-law Margaret Rose Horsnell, three daughters Anna Horsnell, Susan Spicer, Cathy (Ken) MacAskill, and son Andy (SJ) Horsnell; and ten grandchildren Conor Horsnell Wade, Nathan (Jennifer) Vogler, Coady Vogler, Dylan Spicer, Logan Spicer, Tiffany (Mark Kaizer) Neary, Shane (Drew) MacKenzie, Sally (Marc Levac) MacKenzie, Myna MacKenzie, and Maggie (Morgan Morrison) MacAskill; as well as eight great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.
From the beginning, Sally enjoyed a life set to music, playing the saxophone and clarinet in her Dad’s dance band, and singing with two of her sisters as the Parker Sisters Trio. When the girls weren’t entertaining folks with their natural harmonizing, they were equally as famous for their Parker laugh. Though her first love was singing the old standards, she also continued to sing a variety of music as a soloist and in the United Church choir for many years. After finishing high school, Sally worked on the nursing staff of the local Berwick hospital for four years, a job which she dearly loved. Marriage followed in 1955, when she moved to Dempsey Corner to raise four children, and it was during these years that she became well known for both her cooking and her long-time community involvement in the Westin Women’s Institute. One of her proudest achievements was her accomplishments as an artist, painting hundreds of oil paintings including landscapes, seascapes, portraits, and horses.
The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to both Peggy Silver and the staff of the Grand View Manor for their kindness and care over the last seven years. Cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, September 4, at the Berwick United Church, 240 Commercial Street, Berwick, officiated by the Reverend Tom Woods. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll-free 1-855-825-3448.
