Sabino Busto February 27 1933 July 21 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dedicated husband, loving father, and exemplary nonno.
Sabino is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Vincenza, children, Lucia (Ralph) and Enzo (Angela), and granddaughters, Gabriella and Daniela. He also leaves behind his brother, Giovanni, sisters-in-law, Maria and Angela (Diego), and extended family in Canada and Italy. He is predeceased by his parents, Vincenzo and Lucia, siblings, Vito (Rosa), Domenico, and Silvestro (Caterina), sister-in-law, Isabella (Domenico), and nephew, Vincenzo.
Sabino was born in San Michele, Bari, Italy. He was the youngest of five brothers. In 1963, after a short courtship, he married the love of his life, Vincenza. He endeavored to provide his family with a better life in Canada, and through faith and hard work he made that dream a reality. Believing in God’s providence, in 1963 he made the long solo voyage to Vancouver by ship through Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. After securing employment and housing, his wife followed him to Vancouver. In Vancouver, Sabino and Vincenza reunited with family and friends who had traveled before them from Italy. For 59 years they made Vancouver home and raised their family together.
Sabino was the pillar of our family. He was a caring, compassionate, and charismatic husband, father, and grandfather. He instilled in us the value of hard work and the importance of family. His granddaughters were his pride and joy. He was their biggest supporter and role model. He challenged them to be the best possible versions of themselves. You could regularly find Sabino and his granddaughters playing scopa, gardening, or sharing a meal together. He was a selfless and humble man who was always ready to help anyone in need.
The family would like to thank Drs. Johnston, Chen, and Truong for their exceptional care over the years and for being good friends to our father. Thank you to Natalie for always being the calm voice at the other end of the telephone and finding the time to listen.
We would also thank the team at Burnaby Hospital, in particular, Drs. Fung and Luo, nurses Erin, Maria, and Marilou, Occupational Therapist, Jessica, and Speech Language Pathologist, Anastasia.
We will miss him tremendously and forever remember him in our hearts!
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation in loving memory of Sabino Busto. To make an online donation to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation, please visit www.bhfoundation.ca/donate/.
Prayers for Sabino will be offered Wednesday, August 3rd at 8 pm at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church – 5251 Joyce St, Vancouver, BC., where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 4th at 10 am, followed by entombment at 11:45 am at Ocean View Burial Park South Mausoleum – 4000 Imperial St, Burnaby, BC.
The family asks that those who are sick, currently have COVID-19, or are in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, not attend the Prayer Service, Mass of Christian Burial, and entombment. The family understands that these are challenging times, but our obligation remains to keep attendees healthy and safe. Masks are mandatory for the Prayer Service, Mass of Christian Burial, and entombment. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the family will not be receiving condolences at this time. In addition, mourners are reminded to practice social distancing at all times. Please respect the family’s wishes.
