A EULOGY FOR A FORCE OF NATURE
Our beloved mother passed away last night of a broken heart.
I think like her dad and her mom and her brother and her sister before.
Hell of a thing to pass down like that.
What a beautiful bunch of bad tickers.
We didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye.
When I saw her and touched her soft hair, she was still warm.
Still lovely. Still strong. Still.
But no longer confused. No longer sad. No longer worried about us, or dad, or her.
I’m sure we will celebrate her life very soon.
When we do, please leave your opinions and beliefs at home and bring only your love.
And maybe offerings of art and laughter and pretty rocks … and perhaps a bit of fine chocolate. Things that mom would have liked.
We’ll hang it in the hemlocks, wile it away in the willows, and hide it in the fox holes.
Enjoy the chocolate amongst yourselves and share a sweet memory of our mother.
Everything else will go to the woods, the wind, and the wild things.
We will spread her ashes on the land that she loved so dearly.
It might sully the snow, but it will eventually melt into this loveliness she called home.
The birds and the frogs will sing strange songs of her smile, her fierceness, her fight.
Go back to the flint and the fossils and the turtles and the tamarack, mom.
We will always love you. Always. Forever and ever. Amen.
– Jonah Logan

Beautifully written Jonah. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I have nothing but fond memories. She forever wanted to call me Gordon. May she soar with the birds she proudly served.
