Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Russell Scot Honeyman announce he went home to his Lord and Saviour Jesus, surrounded by the love of his family, in the early morning hours of June 8, 2022, at the Claresholm General Hospital.
Russell was born December 24, 1962, in Bassano, Alberta. He and his family lived in Cluny, Standard, and Drumheller, settling in High River in 1971. Russell played hockey, football and baseball, joined Cadets and played in the school band. He graduated from Senator Riley High School, attended Mount Royal College and then gained experience, developing many valuable skills, in a wide variety of jobs where he was appreciated for his strong work ethic and valuable contributions. Russell was very conscientious in all he did, and living with the stress of his high standards and expectations was difficult for him. He enjoyed collecting recipes, cooking, reading the bible, and helping family and friends whenever needed and loved looking after and spending time with his niece, Ashleigh. He eventually moved to Claresholm, Alberta in 2007 where he lived a quiet life, settling into and contributing to a supportive community. He was an avid Calgary Flames and Stampeders fan, sharing pre and post-game thoughts, and thoroughly analyzing players’ performances with the greatest precision. Russell looked forward to his yearly camping trips to Kananaskis and Christmas shopping trips to Lethbridge with his mom. His strong work ethic and desire to help were ever-present as he happily worked many hours side-by-side with his mom and his dad on large home projects over the years. His strong religious beliefs and a deep sense of connection to family gave him guidance and purpose in his daily life.
Russell was a sweet soul and a soft-spoken, gentle man who was loved dearly by many and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his parents, Merrill and Janet Honeyman, his brother, Danny (Mexico), his sisters, Carolyn and Christine and his nieces, Ashleigh (Phil), Melissa (Taylor) and Mariah and his great-nephew, Quinn, and great-niece, Khloe.
A service will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Hussar, Alberta on June 16th at 1:00 PM with lunch to follow at the Sundowner’s Centre. Prior to this, the family will attend a graveside service at the Hussar Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Hussar Cemetery Fund c/o The Village of Hussar, Box 100, Hussar, Alberta T0J 1S0.
