Obituary
The family of Roy L. McPeak are saddened to announce his peaceful passing on May 16,2022 in Claresholm, AB, at the age of 84 years.
Roy will be missed by his wife Colleen; stepson Jonathon Hort of Nanton, stepdaughter Dr. Patti Hort of Calgary, son Sloan (Rosana) Challand of Vancouver and their children Aresanna and Cole, son John (Shirley) Challand of Calgary and their children Tyler and Lindsey.
Roy was predeceased by his parents Doyle and Alma McPeak, brother Richard McPeak, sister Faye Kindt, wife Patti McPeak and son Lee Ollie McPeak.
As a young man Roy worked with and for his best friend, his dad, Doyle McPeak. At the young age of 19 he settled on the ranch west of Nanton where he remained until the 1980’s, ranching and farming with his dad.
Roy had an interest in horses from a very early age and developed a keen eye for conformation and potential with the hands of a natural horseman. Roy was known for true integrity when buying and selling horses, with a driving desire to create a successful horse and rider team.
Whatever the adventure, it was always done correctly and to the best of his ability whether it be buying a horse, building a house or buying farm machinery, it was done to a high standard.
Raising quarter horses, cattle ranching, rodeo and farming – Roy was the cowboy of cowboys.
Roy joined Senior Pro Rodeo as a member of the Canadian Old Timers Association COTRA then the CSPRA – Canadian Senior Pro Rodeo, is a lifetime member of the NSPRA, Gold Card CPRA, has a lifetime membership AQHA, and is a member of various team roping associations.
Roy was a rodeo pick up man for Vold Rodeo, did a little Steer Wrestling and won his first bronze Calf Roping Trophy in 1952. He also competed outside the rodeo arena – 3 times Canadian Cattle Penning Champion, Reining Horse Champion and a number of Ranch horse competitions.
A Celebration of Life for Roy will be held on Monday June 6, 2022, at 2pm at the Nanton Community Center.
