It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roy John Woelke in Vernon, BC on August 29, 2022 at the age of 83 years. Roy was born in Arden, Manitoba in 1939, the fourth child of David and Helena Woelke. Roy was a journeyman plumber and tinsmith most of his life. Later he was an apartment manager until his retirement. He worked in various places in different provinces as work was available. He was a farmer at heart, preferring the country to city life. A lot of his happy years were spent in Glenwood on their hobby farm raising his many animals. He was an expert at butchering, smoking meats and making all kinds of meals, including Mennonite foods as well as wonderful Chinese meals and BBQs. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Fran, to whom he was married for over 63 years. He is also survived by his children, David Woelke (Hera), Linda Heft (Audie), Carol Verge (Geoff) and Ted Woelke (Yoon Jeong); his 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Barry Woelke and Larry Woelke, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his parents, David and Helena (Reimer) Woelke, brothers Peter Woelke and David Woelke, sisters Mary Free, Margaret Peters and Dianna Charney as well as his well-loved Grandson Christian Verge. Funeral services were held at Faith Baptist Church in Vernon BC on September 4th 2022 officiated by Rev. Larry Woelke. Burial was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Vernon BC. The family wishes to thank Dr. Werner Schuch of Vernon and the staff at Noric House in Vernon for the loving care of Roy for the past 4 and a half years. Roy was a wonderful, thoughtful husband and a great father to his four children. He will be terribly missed.
