Ronald “Ron” Maxwell Richard Acker
December 7, 1936 – May 30, 2022
At age 85, Ron, of Harrietsfield and Bedford, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2022, with his family at his side. He is predeceased by his parents Anne and MacBain, his wife Donna, and his infant brother Kenneth. Ron had a love and talent for cooking. He owned Miss Dartmouth Restaurant and Ambassador Restaurant and managed Smitty’s Sunnyside in Bedford. As a jack of all trades, in his semi-retirement he opened his own home improvements and renovations business. With his skillset, he was always willing to lend a hand to family, friends, and church. When he wasn’t working or in the kitchen, Ron loved golfing, bowling, gardening, traveling, and the occasional trip to the casino. You could always find him on the dance floor or at the card table with his friends. He was a 4th degree knight of Knights of Columbus Council 5449 and a devoted family man.
Ron is survived by his partner, Joan Hogan; daughter, Susan; sons, Paul (Colleen) and Gary (Kathy), sisters, Betty (Angus) Corcoran, and Jackie (Caroll) Yorke; brother, David (Jen); grandchildren, Steven, Xan, and Jenna; his Manitoba family, Michael (Debra), Evan, Lauren, and Brendan; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to the medical staff that helped Ron over the last several years. Dr. Leo Wisnioski, Dr. Fraga, Dr. Wilkie, QEII VG 7A staff, especially Dr. Corsten, Bronwen, Thea, Tara, Monica, and Patrick. You were a comfort to our family and to Ron.
Ron, we will miss your hodge podge and fudge, but we will miss you even more.
Cremation has taken place and according to Ron’s wishes, there will be no visitation or flowers. Ron’s funeral will take place at St. Ignatius Church, 1288 Bedford Hwy on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 10:30am with Ron’s favourite priest, Father Patrick Cosgrove, officiating. Reception to follow in the parish hall. Family interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to K9 Partners Assistance Dogs Training Society, as Ron had a fond love for all of the dogs in his life.
