Ronald (Ron) Borden Jones
It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald (Ron) Borden Jones announce his passing on October 13th, 2022, at the age of 85.
Ron was born in Elgin, Ontario on April 21st, 1937, to Hilda and William Jones and lived much of his childhood with his grandparents. After leaving home at 13 years of age, he developed a strong work ethic at any available job. One of his first jobs was catching minnows to sell to fisherman in Battersea, ON. He went on to work as a farm hand, storekeeper, bread truck driver, furnace installer, roofer, factory worker and press operator.
It was while working as a farm hand he met his first and only love, the farmer’s daughter, Blythe Jones (Abrams). On a rainy July day in 1955, Ron, a passionate Leaf’s fan, and Blythe, an equally passionate Canadiens fan, eloped in Deep River, ON. They built a loving life together (overlooking each other’s tastes in hockey teams) for over 65 years, raising their children and grandchildren.
A strong, proud and good man, Ron was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He would pack his family up every possible weekend to go camping. These many memories and stories are held dear to his family and friends. He loved travelling and road trips, with the Yukon being his favorite place he ever visited.
Ron loved classic cars, owning several throughout his life. He enjoyed his time at classic car shows and rallies. He could never pass up the opportunity to stop and spend hours at used car lots, sometimes to the dismay of his wife and kids.
Ron played the lottery religiously, and although he never won big, he always said that you can’t win if you don’t
play.
Ron gave back to his community whenever he could. He was a volunteer firefighter in the 1970’s in Maitland ON. Later in life he also volunteered at the Brockville General Hospital for over 10 years with his loyal wife Blythe Jones.
Ron was a devoted grandfather as well, always cheering at sporting events, and taking his grandchildren hunting and fishing. He drove them wherever they needed to go always leaving extra time for all the red lights he attracted…he really could hit every red light in town on one trip. He offered up simple and sound advice, be honest, work hard and try your best to get along with all people.
Ron is predeceased in death by his siblings Alan Jones, Ralph Jones (Fay) and his son-in-law Clayton Fischer. Ron is survived by his loving wife, Blythe Jones, his children Randy Jones (Heather) and Cindy Fischer And grandchildren Christina Bracamonte (Justin), Jake Jones (Ashley), Joel Jones, Susanna Fischer (Aaron), James Davies (Sarah) and Melanie Lalonde (Heath), his siblings, Marie McCormick (B8ill, Sandra Youmans (Colin), Roger Jones (Lynn) and 11 great grandchildren. There will be a private graveside service next week with celebration of life to follow at a future date.
Donations can be directed to Autism Ontario or your local food bank.
Send condolences or share a special thought of Ron on the memory wall above.
