Ron Sparling passed away at the age of 71. Beloved husband of Vivian (Shelley). Predeceased by his parents, Reece and Eva. Loving father of Roderick (Tracie), family, Trevor & Trent and Joseph, family, Penelope, Alex & Koen of London. Stepfather of Adrienne (Mike) Schleihauf, family, Kate and Alex, and Kristin (Dan) Gunning, family, Jacob of Petrolia. Survived by brother Wayne (Judy) of Belmont, Ontario. A respected Professor with Lambton College Fire & Public Safety, Safety Co-Ordinator and Emergency Medical Care Attendant for Sarnia General Hospital and EMCA with Forest District Ambulance Service. Ron was a volunteer Firefighter, Fire Prevention Officer, Fire Training Officer, Fire Company Officer, Fire Educator, Fire Investigator, and Fire Chief. He served in the Forest, Camlachie, Corunna and Point Edward Fire Departments. Ron received seven medals during his career. These included the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, The Federal Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal, The Federal Fire Service Exemplary Service Medal, The Provincial Fire Service Medal, The Life Saving Medal, The Volunteer Firefighter Medal and The Dr. John & Dr. Suanne Roueche Excellence in Teaching Medal, Dallas Texas USA. Ron was the very proud Firefighter Combat Team Coach for over 10 years at Lambton College. During that time the team received World, Canadian National and Regional titles and hundreds of medals. Ron enjoyed his humanitarian trips to Cuba. Ron loved to save lives by working the streets and through teaching. At the request of Ron, cremation has taken place. There will be NO VISITATION. A private interment of ashes will take place in Forest Beachwood Cemetery with only the immediate family. Arrangements entrusted SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
