Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at his home, Ronald Elgin Rowcliffe Q.C. passed away at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Annette George. Loving father of Gordon (Marlys) Rowcliffe, Tracey George, Crystal George (Ryan), Andrea George (Chad) and Elgin George. Cherished grandfather of Jackson Antila, Noal, Willie, Luke Grondin, Tyler George, Autumn Rowcliffe and Jayden Frew. Dear brother of Margaret “Peggy” (Geoff) Craven and brother-in-law of William Jacobs, late Brian Jacobs (2015), Audrey Jacobs, and Wanda Gray. Missed by his special friends Hugh Williams, Joanne Rogers, Teresa Sokol and Barb Riley. Will be missed by several nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Predeceased by his parents Elgin and Ada (Case) Rowcliffe, and by his siblings Ruth (1929), John (1931), Laird (1936), Alan (1936), Bob (2005) and Bill (2011).
Ronald was born and raised on the family farm in Rodgerville on lot 34, concession 1 of Usborne Township. Ronald graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1958, attended Osgoode Hall in 1961, and was called to bar in 1963. He then moved to Sarnia, where he had a long and successful career. Ronald was also an Honorary Chief of Aamjiwnaang First Nation, named Chief Animkeekeegdowin by his special friend Gerald Maness. He loved cooking and spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. Ronald will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Ronald’s wishes, no services will be held. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Aamjiwnaang Food Bank or Aamjiwnaang First Nation Youth Council (cheques only at the funeral home please).
