Robert Nelson Dyke Sunday October 23rd 2022

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Robert Nelson Dyke, 73, of Hilden. Robert passed away on October 23, 2022, peacefully in his sleep, in the comfort of his own home, and in the warm arms of his beloved wife, Jessie, just as he had always wanted.
Robert was born in Truro, Nova Scotia, on November 29, 1948. He grew up living with his mother, Gwen Dyke (née Greenough), and maternal grandparents in the Belvedere Hotel on Prince Street.
Robert was considered to be a “jack of all trades” or “handyman” throughout his life; he could see to nearly every task that was presented to him. Robert was an accomplished truck driver, house painter, and volunteer firefighter with the Truro Volunteer Fire Brigade. He was also an avid woodworker, card player, and bowler.
Robert had a unique sense of humour that endeared him to all who had the pleasure of meeting him. His often-dry delivery of clever witticisms was well known to cause his wife to roll her eyes and his grandchildren to laugh uncontrollably.
Behind a gruff exterior, Robert possessed a warm heart. His love for his family burned so fiercely that even the Truro Volunteer Fire Brigade would have been unable to put it out.
Along with being a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Robert was a deeply cherished friend and neighbour. During the summer months (his favourite season), Robert had a habit of suddenly appearing on a neighbour’s deck, Orange Crush in hand, ready to spark up a conversation.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie; daughters, Tracy and Kerry; grandchildren, Callin, Keely, Tyler, and Claira; sisters, Wenda, Sheila, Debbie, and Sharon; stepchildren, Jamie (Rhonda), Tyler, Maggie (James), and Peter (Justine); and step-grandchildren, Abby, Owen, and Hazel.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Karen; and brother, Richard.
Those who knew him will continue to feel Robert’s presence in numerous aspects of daily life. He will be felt while we are in line at Tim Hortons, when a classic car passes us on the street, and whenever we see or wear a buffalo plaid shirt. These things are synonymous with Robert, as is the love he possessed for all of his friends and family.
All of Robert’s loved ones miss him dearly but will cherish the countless wonderful moments they have had with him. We love you, Grampie, now and forever.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Robert to a local charity of your choosing.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, October 28th, at 2 p.m. in Bible Hill Cemetery, Bible Hill. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, NS.
