OJOLICK, Robert J. (Bob)
Robert J. Ojolick, 81 of Coxheath, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 10, 2022. Born in Sydney, Bob was the son of the late John and Emma (Kiss) Ojoleck of Whitney Pier. He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of 55 years, Kathryn (Tetanish); daughters: Elena (Jan) of Calgary, and Eva of Bradenton, Florida; grandchildren Kayla, Hugo and Jona Ryan; brother Michael (Etel) Judique; and sister Donna (Charles Collins) of Tantallon; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob is a graduate of St. F.X. University and the Technical University of Nova Scotia and was the recipient of a Swedish Government Fellowship for Travel, Study and Research in Sweden. Bob and family returned to Cape Breton and established a private practice in Architecture and Planning in Sydney and maintained an active professional career. He participated in several organizations and boards including Sydney Kiwanis Club; President – Nova Scotia Association of Architects; Member, Board of Trustees, Canadian Museum of Civilization; Building Committee, Canadian War Museum; Member of Board of MacGillivray Guest Home, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, and Coastal Business CBDC. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Sydney River.
Bob was invested by his peers into the College of Fellows of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, and received the Canadian Housing Design Award for the Atlantic Provinces for Tideways in Wolfville, and the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Architecture for the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.
In retirement, Bob fervently enjoyed watercolor painting, achieving membership in FSWS and exhibiting his work in Cape Breton as well as Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob may be made to The Ukrainian Relief Fund at Holy Ghost Church or to MacGillivray Guest Home.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Sydney Memorial Chapel, and a funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River, on Saturday, April 16, at 11:00 am with Father Jim Oliver and Father Roman Dusanowskyj officiating.
