Robert “Bob” Carl McAuley – age 75 of Short Beach, Yar. Co., N.S. Passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Holding his hand after bravely facing numerous debilitating health challenges in his final years. He faced his days with smiles and grace. Bob was born on September 19, 1946, in Digby, N.S. and was the son of the late Leo and Agnes (Amero) McAuley. Bob moved into his forever home on his second birthday and he never left. “The Hill” was his favourite place to be. His own personal slice of heaven where he could watch wildlife frolic and play in his fields. Bob was a quiet, gentle soul who deeply loved his family and devoted his life to them. Besides being a brother he carried the title of Uncle proudly. Bob was a fisherman by trade having been mentored from a very young age by Gordon Brittan. Because of Gordon’s guiding ways, Bob went on to own and captain 3 successful fishing boats during his career. The final being, MV Candace Hannah. The ocean was where he spent his days until retirement. Bob liked a simple, quiet life. He enjoyed sitting in his chair playing his guitars, banjo, mandolin, keyboard and accordion, all self-taught. He had a love of electronics, computers, and playing games with family members. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter alongside his brothers. Bob leaves behind his only sister, June Deveau who during his final years was not only his best friend but his constant companion and caregiver. Bob had a very unique and special relationship with June’s children Mitcheal Deveau, Denise Hubbard, and Melissa Deveau. If you asked him June’s children were like his very own. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law, Rosilda McAuley, Yarmouth, N.S. ; Judy McAuley, Ontario; Oregon and Connie McAuley, Short Beach, Yarmouth Co. He also leaves close family friend Scott Crowell as well as many nephews and nieces. Bob was predeceased by brothers, Gene, Roderick and David who was his partner in the business until they retired. The family would like to thank Argyle Home Support for the loving care over the years. Donations in memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
