À la mémoire de
Richard Joseph Fahey

23 juin 2022
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, in his 96th year! Predeceased (April 2021), by his wife of 67 years, Gloria (nee Avery). He leaves behind his five children, Carol, Joanne, Margaret (Colin), Janet (Howard) and Jim (Thais). Eight grandchildren, Carrie (Regis), Amanda (Ray), Hugh, Jillian (Lawrence), Patrick (Heather), Douglas (Brittany), Erin (Michael) and James (Julia) and 11 great-grandchildren. Also, sister-in-law Marion Avery (d. Myrl) and family, cousins Catherine Fahey Armstrong (d. Leslie), Joseph Fahey (Eleanor), and many other family members and friends! Predeceased by his sister Mona Fahey (2008), son-in-law Clifford Metcalfe (2019) and twin great-grandchildren Avery & Briar (2019).
Born in Sault Ste. Marie, to James V. Fahey & Mildred L. Moore, where his love for hockey began! The family moved to St. Catharines where Richard’s community involvement took hold! He eventually formed the St. Catharines Boys Club, where his excellent hobby skills for model trains and model aircraft flourished. He joined the St. Catharines Flying Club (model aircraft) and was MAAC #2961L for which he was immensely proud! He worked along side his father at Ontario Paper in Thorold, then at Niagara Plumbing, until moving on to S. A. Armstrong Ltd.
Richard met “his bride” Gloria, on a summer holiday in Dorset ON., and the rest is history! Five children later, they moved from St. Catharines to Burlington, where he established and managed the S.A.A. Golden Horseshoe sales office. “Mr. Fahey” was known in the neighbourhood for his backyard rink, his boat building skills (“The Fossil”), his beautifully crafted collection of RC Model Airplanes and later a model replica of the Westport to Brockville CNR Line! He loved sports and coached BLOMA hockey and Burlington Minor soccer and spent many hours driving to games and practices, not only supporting his children but others as well! Richard was a member and Public Relations Manager for MAAC (Model Aeronautics Association of Canada) and played a big part in establishing the Burlington RC Modelers Club Inc. and the Burlington Model Railway Club Inc. He held many Boards of Director titles! Richard was also a member of SOGGI (Southern Ontario Glider Group Inc.) He loved marching band music and family picnics, made skillfully by Gloria! In retirement he volunteered with the 540 Golden Hawks Air Cadets Squadron in Oakville. He was so proud when two of his great-grandchildren joined the 779 Black Night Air Cadet Squadron! Always an avid reader, his wealth of knowledge was endless! As per Richard’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family would like to thank, Dr. William W. Simmons, Dr. William Love Jr., Simply Care (Angie, Tina & Annette), Home Instead Senior Care (Monika), the LHIN (Gloria, Elsie, and Anna) and all the staff on Oakwood at CAMA Woodlands, for their kindness and compassionate care!
A private burial service and for Richard and Gloria, to be held at a later date.
