Obituary
Richard James Plumstead, in his 89th year, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2022, at a Eatonville Care Centre, just days after losing his beloved wife.
He was born to Helen Howes on August 30, 1933, in Paris, Ontario.
From humble beginnings he graduated from Paris District High School and went on to the University of Western Ontario and graduated with an honour’s degree in Chemistry. From there he began his 40-year career with Imperial Oil in various roles within the organization. After taking early retirement he was called back to assist on a legal case involving a patent on a product he had created.
Richard and Ardeth were married on October 26, 1957, at Paris United Church. After almost 65 years of marriage, they are now reunited for eternity.
He was a quiet and proud man who didn’t share his feelings often but wanted to provide all he could for his family and worked hard to achieve this.
Dick (as he was known to friends), enjoyed curling at the Dixie Curling Club, watching baseball, spending winters in Florida golfing and walking Sanibel’s sandy shores, puttering around the cottage and boating on Little Kennisis Lake. He could often be found outside fixing something, gardening, trimming, or meticulously cutting the lawn!
Richard is survived by his daughters Beth Ann and Sara Ellen, son-in-law Richard Railey and treasured only grandchild Morgan Tara Elliott.
The family has entrusted W John Thomas Funeral home with the arrangements. A celebration of Richard’s life will take place at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Alliston District Humane Society. To share condolences online, please visit Richard’s obituary on the funeral website.
