Richard Humble
Dr. Richard “Ric” Gordon Humble. In his 73rd year, passed suddenly on Tuesday November 15th, 2022. Son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Richard Humble of Guelph, ON. Father of James, of Guelph, and Lauren, of Whitehorse. Older brother to Tim and Greg, of Bracebridge. As a teenager in Guelph, Ric began his life long journey in Muskoka by taking a summer job as a waiter at Aston Villa Resort on Lake Muskoka. During this time, Ric and his friends Peter, Don, Dave and Paul were the original creators and operators of Summer Water Ski Services in Muskoka. Operating out of Cleveland House on Lake Rosseau, they performed water ski shows at Cleveland House, Paignton House, Bala, Aston Villa Resort and various other locations throughout southern Ontario during the summers while attending University.
Upon graduating from McMaster Medical School in 1979 and completing a one year internship, Ric began as an Emergency Room Doctor at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital as well as a Locum Doctor in Bracebridge. Later, he trained in Urology at Western and Radiology at McMaster returning each time to practice medicine in Muskoka. Throughout his admirable 43 year career in medicine, Ric spent many years as a beloved family practitioner in various clinics in Muskoka.
Not one for down time, Ric maintained his medical career while simultaneously embarking on another remarkable journey. Doctor Ric, as he was affectionately known by his teammates, served with honour and distinction with the Ontario Provincial Police Tactics and Rescue unit from 1995 until 2007. Ric was a sworn special constable and was one of the founding members of the OPP’s Tactical Emergency Medical Program. He is noted as a pioneer and ground breaker for a program that has become the gold standard of tactical medicine. Ric was an integral member of his team, a constant source of medical competence and infectious humour. He will be forever remembered by those he served with.
In his spare time, Ric was a passionate private pilot who owned and flew various aircrafts for many years. His favourites included a stunt plane and float planes, which he occasionally used to make house calls to patients on the Muskoka Lakes.
In addition to performing surgeries, Ric skillfully used his hands to craft furniture, play guitar, drums and trumpet.
A Celebration of Life will take place in the spring of 2023, all will be welcome to break bread, share stories and honour a life lived to the fullest.
As a lifelong animal lover, the family requests donations be made to the SPCA in Ric’s name, in lieu of flowers.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Richard Gordon Humble 1950 2022 (age 72)..
