r Samuel Edgerton 2022

On a snowy fall afternoon, Wednesday, November 16th, 2022, Homer Samuel Edgerton passed peacefully with family by his side at Moose Jaw, SK. Sam was born on June 8th, 1932 at Mossbank, SK and was raised at Mossbank and Swift Current, SK. He was the youngest of seven. Sam filled many roles during his life including son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and soon to be great-grandfather. Sam completed high school in Swift Current where he participated in many sports, including baseball, basketball, track & field and hockey. His love for hockey paid off as he was scouted to play for the Chicago Blackhawks. His mother encouraged him to pursue a different path, which led to a career that spanned over 50 years. Later in life he added golfing and curling to the mix, along with coaching his son’s hockey teams. In Sam’s later years he took up bowling, becoming a master and a coach. Sam married Margaret Code in June of 1954. Together they raised four children on the Edgerton farm and then in the town of Mossbank. There was a short time spent in Harptree, SK where he was an elevator agent. Sam enjoyed the farm, nature, gardening, playing cards and watching tennis. He was an avid reader, especially western novels. He liked to learn and continued his knowledge with many classes. Sam had an illustrious career beginning in 1958 as an assistant administrator for RM Lake Johnston #102 and the Town of Mossbank. For a short time he went to a role of travelling salesman for the SARM, before taking on full administrator duties for the town of Mossbank, RM Lake Johnston #102 and RM Sutton #103. He was also an interim administrator for the RM of Assiniboia, the RM of Courval, and the RM of Gravelbourg. Sam also sat on the boards of Sutton-Lake Johnston Union Hospital District, Assiniboia Savings and Credit Union, Gravelbourg St. Joseph’s Hospital, and South Country Home Care District. In 2012 Sam received the SARM Lou Jacobs Award. As he was mentored, he paid it forward by mentoring and training others. Sam belonged and volunteered on many community projects, including the Mossbank Golf Club, Mossbank Kinsmen Club, Mossbank Rink Committee, Mossbank Noodle Factory Committee, and assisted in creating the new Mossbank library. In 2016, Sam and Margaret moved into the Bentley in Moose Jaw, SK where he enjoyed the activities. Sam took up walking in Moose Jaw and covered many miles. Family was everything to him, and of course, his grandchildren were the best!
He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Margaret (deceased September 28th, 2022); son, Sheldon; father, Homer Samuel 1; mother, Mary (Easton); brothers, Fred and Calvin; and sisters: Jaclynn Louise, Nettie, Marie, and Margaret. Sam is survived by his children: Sharei, Sam Jr. (Shelli), and Sharlene (Paul); grandchildren: Sean, Bret, Bryn (Brett), Alix (Luke), Sarah (Pedro), and Carter (Tyller); as well as many nieces and nephews. Sam will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
In keeping with Sam’s wishes, a Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Michelle Ellis, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
