Obituary
Peter passed away on March 16, 2022, in Hamilton, Ontario with his wife Sherry McNeil and his sister Kathlene Contant by his side. Peter was born on October 25, 1957, in Hauterive, Saguenay, Quebec. He was the son of Marcel and Agnes Contant, was the oldest of 10 children, and the father of twins: Andrew and Mitchell. He was a self-employed serial entrepreneur who possessed a big heart and larger-than-life personality. He appreciated beauty in the world, and had a love for animals, water and the beach and small-town excursions. Peter liked things big, whether it was his truck, or his kitchen with its huge island for cooking and entertaining. Peter was known to have strong opinions on various subjects including politics and loved to discuss with friends. He was creative and loved to design, build, create and renovate. Peter loved the ‘fine things in life’, such as strong coffee, good food, chocolate, music, and art. He was kind, and he was known to complete work for a lemon meringue or strawberry-rhubarb pie. He enjoyed going on an adventure and collecting ‘artistic treasures’ that all came with a good story. Peter was happiest when at home or sharing a deep conversation over a nice meal and glass of wine with those who meant the most – he called it creating ‘memory moments’.
Peter was an intensely private person, he knew many, but invited few into his home. Thank you to his close family and friends who helped make ‘memory moments’ despite Covid during the last year of his life; Joseph Contant, Kathlene Contant, Darleen & Mark Cunningham, Diane & Brian Dickson, Steve & Betty Lavery, Joanne, Sean, Ben & Sarah Linton, Brad & Carolyn McNeil, Jack & Eleanor McNeil, and Lori Porter.
If desired, a donation made in Peter’s memory to either the Juravinski Cancer Centre or the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA (where he adopted his beloved 3-legged cat, Miss BB), would be appreciated as an expression of sympathy.
A Celebration of Peter’s life is being planned for a future date.
