Peter Braat
1932 – 2022
Peter J. Braat, beloved husband of Mildred Braat passed away at St. Joseph’s Home-Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at the age of 89 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mildred and their children, Laurence (Lauri), Joseph (Laura), Rosemary, Susanne (John), Theresa (Bill), and Peter F.; Opa to Lawson, Laine, Rebecca (Jayden), Sara, Jacob, William, Hannah, Miriam and Anneke; brothers, Jake (Shirley), Fritz (Lisa), Case (Katie); sister Ann (Hank); sister-in-law, Bep as well as many nieces and nephews and the Badura family. Peter was born in Schyf, Holland on November 3, 1932, and immigrated with his parents and family in 1953 to Southern Alberta. Peter married Mildred Badura in Taber, AB., on January 6, 1968. Peter’s life was family and farming. He started farming in Coaldale and moved with Mildred and family to Seven Persons in 1981. They moved to Medicine Hat on March 1, 1993 and Peter continued to work on a local farm. Peter took great pride in farming and improving the land he was blessed to work on. Peter was very skilled at working with his hands, he was a great builder and mechanic. It gave him joy to teach his children his skills of labour and help them in any way possible. He liked to keep active, helping Mildred with the garden, going for walks and was riding bicycle until he was 87. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacobus and Johanna Braat; brothers John, Morris (Jane) and Gerry; sister Joanne, and sister-in-law Beth. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so one hour prior to the start of Vigil Prayers which will be recited at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street SW, in Medicine Hat on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road SE, Medicine Hat on Friday, August 5, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with a private family interment to follow in the Roman Catholic Section in Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Peter’s name may be made directly to the Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation c/o Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre, 666 – 5 Street SW, Medicine Hat, AB., T1A 4H6 or to World Missions c/o your parish.
