Paul Hnatiw, age 70, a lifelong Edmonton resident, a loving father, and a dear friend to many passed away peacefully on August 15th, 2022 at the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital after battling varying health problems on and off over the last few months and years.
He was born in February of 1952 to newly immigrated parents Michael and Katarina Matanovic. Paul will always be loved and remembered for his kind heartedness, ability to make you laugh, and for being a pillar of support when you need him by his loving wife Isidra Hnatiw, of 34 years; his only son, Michael Hnatiw; his younger sister, Anna Sharum; and the many friends and family who have come to know him over the years.
Paul’s early life was plagued with health issues due to a genetic bone condition, but he persevered and went on to take many interesting jobs and passions, including aviation, peace keeping, and a surprising love for theater and arts. He eventually landed a 40 year long career working for Alberta Justice where his work ethic and sense of humor (or lack thereof) earned him the title of office grouch.
A Visitation will be held at 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Connelly-McKinley Edmonton South (4820 Meridian Street, Edmonton). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (2702 34 Street NW, Edmonton). There will be a second visitation one hour prior to the Mass.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, we kindly ask that anyone who wishes to do so please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Paul Hnatiw 2022..
