(Joseph) Paul Edouard (Papin Dit) Barolet
1932-2022
Paul passed away peacefully on April 10th at the age 90 in Kanata, Ontario. Paul was predeceased by his loving wife of 80 years Letty Barolet (1937-2017) whom he dearly missed, and his eldest son John Edouard Barolet (1965-2016). Paul is fondly remembered by his surviving sons Marc, Paul (Jr) (Jennifer) and Noel (Julie), his 4 grandchildren Paisley, Luke, Melanie and Katrina, his sister, Louise Barolet, and many friends.
Paul grew up in Montreal, Quebec and spoke only French until the age of 18. He then attended McGill University and graduated as a chemical engineer. While at University he met many of his lifelong friends. Paul met Letty while skiing in Vermont, and soon afterwards got married on July 11th, 1964 and raised a family in Brampton Ontario. Paul worked for several companies after graduation but eventually became a manager for Northern Electric (Nortel).
Paul is described by his lifelong friends as a dear man full of life and laughter, energy and optimism. Paul was always a very special person in peoples’ lives and will truly be missed. Paul and Letty had a passion for the ballet and opera and enjoyed travelling. Never one to shy away from new groups, Paul played bridge with Letty for many years. After a long career he retired in 1991 and moved to Mansfield, Ontario for his golden years with Letty, where they found many opportunities for hiking, travelling, volunteering and spending time with family and friends. Paul endured the Covid-19 pandemic with video calls and family dinner nights from which he took great pleasure until his hospitalization in 2022.
Paul was fully aware of his situation and was spiritually at ease. Paul even joked with the doctor “don’t work too hard, I am ready for the afterlife”. Such comments bore his trademark optimism and good humour.
There will be a reception at the funeral home after the burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to the Canadian Cancer Society.
