Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 surrounded by his loving family, Bren was 73 years old.
Predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Nell Atkins, father and mother in-law William and Daisy Belle Hammond, brother in-law Howard Strong and sister in-law Hazel Hammond, and his much loved dogs, Prince and Harley.
Leaving to morn, the love of his life, wife of 50 years and favourite companion, Daisy (Hammond), daughter Tanya (Duane) Sparkes, treasured grandchildren Hope, Kelsey, and Chase. Sisters Elaine (Art) Wells and Martina (Bob) Bassett; sisters in-law Shirley Strong, Liz (Dave) Dewling, Sheree Hammond; brother in-laws Clayt Batten and Bill (Betty) Hammond; along with his nieces and nephews, Sean (Janet) Wells, Dana (Blair) Gulliver, Jeff (Crystal) Bassett, Melissa Bassett, Danielle Dewling, Jillian Hammond and Leslie Hammond.
Bren loved life, from his 28 years working at Concrete Products, riding his motorcycles and driving his truck with Daisy always by his side, proudly watching their grandchildren grow, their summers spent at their cabin, to his home filled with his kind neighbors who were always there to lend a helping hand and have a chat. Bren said he had a life well lived.
A special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at both the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre and Health Sciences Centre these past 11 weeks of Bren’s life. Especially in the ICU and 4 South A, so many made Bren’s last weeks as comfortable as possible, your kindness will not be forgotten. Dr. Patrick O’Shea, who Bren immensely appreciated and respected for his exceptional and knowledgeable care all these years.
Cremation has taken place. At Bren’s request, there will be no visitation and a private gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada in Bren’s memory.
Bren is gone to ride his motorcycle in the sky, promising to be back for Daisy.
