Paul Angus Poirier March 12 2022 avis de deces

Paul Angus Poirier
March 12, 2022
We regret to announce the sudden passing of our brother, uncle, friend, and community builder, Paul Angus Poirier, 66, of Cheticamp which occurred on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp.
Born on November 3rd, 1955 in Cheticamp, he was the son of the late Arthur and the late Bella (Roach) Poirier.
Paul Angus was a 35-year employee of Le Foyer Père Fiset Guest Home and worked as a continuing care assistant. He was proud of his job, his coworkers, but especially, the people he cared for. He made them laugh and made their days a little brighter. Upon his semi-retirement at the age of 60, while still working part time at the Foyer, he started working part time as caretaker (bedeau) at l’Église Saint-Pierre as well as this past year, doing housekeeping duties for Bay Wind Suites.
Paul Angus was a community minded person who loved to help out in any way. He was on the board of directors of the Cheticamp Association Residential Educational Society (The Green Door), founding committee member of the Cape Breton Cancer Patient Fund, St. Vincent de Paul Society and Rainbow Rockstarz fundraising team. He was a long-time member of the liturgy committee for l’Église Saint-Pierre and did much of the decor throughout the year. His decorating skills were often requested for countless weddings, anniversaries, parties, events, etc. In the community, he was always ready and willing to take on the role of Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, and M. L’Escaouette, the mascot of the annual Acadian festival. He was involved in the Katimavik program and sat on the Centre Acadien board before it closed.
He loved running the “Mi-carême” and was known for his great disguises and costumes he would create to entertain Mi-carême watchers from house to house. He was known for telling jokes, playing tricks on others, and making people laugh, either at work or with family and friends. Don’t let this fool you, when he was pushed in a corner, or felt strongly on a subject, he would show his colorful temper. But, at the end of the day, nothing was left on a bad note.
Paul Angus was a member of the Cursillo movement and was often called to help with the retreats. He was a man of strong faith, which helped him through life’s joys and struggles. You knew you could count on him being there in your time of need. This also led him to be a strong supporter of new immigrants who came to work in the area. He supported and became friends with many Philippine immigrants which in turn made him part of their family, which he truly cherished.
He leaves to mourn his sisters, Madeleine Poirier (Eddie Boudreau), Cheticamp, and Denise Poirier, Cheticamp; sisters-in-law, Diane Poirier, and Laurette Poirier; nieces, Natalie Poirier (Goddaughter), and Isabelle Poirier; nephews, Marc Poirier, and Fidel Poirier; Goddaughter, Nicole Harris; and his Filipino family, Jay Arr, Cherry Maye Guitierrez, and their children, whom he loved as his family.
Besides his father, Arthur (2020) and his mother, Bella (1986), he was predeceased by his brothers, Gerard (2004), Willie John (2006), and Victor (2013); brother-in-law, Gelas Poirier (2012).
Visitation will be held at the Cheticamp Funeral Home on Friday, March 18, 2022 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 10:30 am, in Église Saint-Pierre, Cheticamp with Father Pierre Antoine St. Cyr officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Donations may be made to l’Église St. Pierre or a charity of your choice.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Paul Angus Poirier March 12 2022..
