Obituary
Patsy Trakalo (nee Panteluk)
October 9, 1957 – February 12, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Patsy Trakalo on Saturday, February 12th, at the Gimli Community Health Centre, at the age of 64, with her devoted husband Les by her side.
Patsy leaves to mourn her passing, her loving husband, Les, of 37 years, cherished son, Brent Trakalo, precious granddaughter, Luka; sisters, Carol Keller, Shirley Sumka (Ted), Linda Appell (Arnie); brother, Wayne Panteluk (Sharon); sister-in-law, Rochelle Panteluk; mother-in-law, Jean Trakalo and in-laws, Ken, Bernie, Shirley, Billy, Lynn and spouses, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Patsy married the love of her life, best friend and soul mate on October 13, 1984. They were inseparable and Les was always there by her side, providing unconditional love and support.
Pasty loved her son Brent dearly. Brent was her dearest accomplishment and she was his biggest fan, and would do anything within her means for him. She was so proud when she became a grandma and she simply adored her granddaughter, Luka.
Patsy grew up in Meleb, born the youngest girl of six children. She attended Gimli Composite High School. Soon after, she moved to Winnipeg and worked at Great West Life until her brain aneurysm at the age of 23, inevitably resulted in the paralysis of her left side. Despite the challenges Patsy faced, she persevered and never gave up hope. She was strong and determined and faced her obstacles with grace and humility. She was kind and thoughtful, and always greeted you with a smile. Patsy was also so very humble and asked for so little, and was always so grateful to her family and friends. Patsy enjoyed family functions, visiting and playing cards, listening to music, watching her afternoon soaps, going to bingo, and spending time with their beloved cats. We always knew we could find her playing bingo on Friday nights at the Fraserwood Hall amongst her many cherished friends within the bingo community. We’ll miss her laughter and love, and we will forever remember her by her mom’s side, their beautiful bond, and their shared love of cards and bingo.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Gimli Hospital for their care and compassion, and her loyal best friend and neighbor, Gail Jacobson, who she treasured and was always there for Patsy. We would also like to thank her dear aunties, Rosie and Lucy, for their frequent phone calls and visits. Patsy and Les loved playing cards with them.
We all gained another Angel and know she was greeted in heaven by those that predeceased her, including her mother and father, Lil and John Panteluk; father-in-law, Joe Trakalo; brother, Steve Panteluk; brothers-in-law, Martin Keller and Art Garner, and nephews, Keith Keller and Larry Sumka. Patsy, you will be missed.
May you rest in peace and soar with the angels.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Donations can be made in Patsy’s memory to St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery (Berlo, Manitoba) or the MS Society of Canada.
