Patricia Mary Nickerson Wednesday December 16th 2020

PATRICIA MARY (HORTON) NICKERSON
On December 16th, four days shy of her 92″ birthday, Patricia Mary Nickerson joined her husband Randall and her second son Richard in eternal peace. Patricia was born December 20, 1928, in Arlington, Massachusetts the second daughter of Robert and Jean (Godfrey) Horton, and the family soon returned to Nova Scotia. As a child she was considered a tomboy because she was always eager to play some sport or other, a love for competition she enjoyed her lifelong; playing sports, watching sports and talking about sports. In her early teen years she developed what could possibly a fatal condition, her subsequent survival due perhaps to her competitive nature. She met the love of her life, and on April 25, 1953 she married Randall Everett Nickerson and their love carried them through 65 years producing three sons. In one of life’s twists her sister Margaret had three daughters. That journey of love foundered upon Randall’s death in 2017, a loss that struck deeper as time passed. She worked as a certified drug clerk at both Central Pharmacy and later at Shopper’s Drug Mart where she made many friends. One of her other jobs brought her to what became her life’s pleasure, golf. While helping the government compile statistics, she happened upon a farm that was being converted into a golf course and quickly became addicted to this sport. She soon became good enough to become Ladies Champion at both Yarmouth and Clare golf clubs for a number of years. On several occasions Patricia represented Nova Scotia nationally, traveling to various courses across Canada. During her golfing years Patricia had seven holes-in-one, including being joined in the feat by her husband and wife in 1994. She is an inductee to the Yarmouth Town and County Sports Hall of Fame, and was proud to be joined by a son along with her uncle Halley Horton to be three generation inductees. Their shared love of golf took Randall and Patricia on yearly treks to Myrtle Beach, S.C. where they spent the winters golfing and socializing. Holy Trinity Church played a major part in her life, it was where she worshiped, where she was married, where her children were raised. She sang in the choir for years and after learning how to play the church bells, spent many happy hours in the bell tower thumping her way through hymns she had transposed to fit the bells. Patricia felt very blessed with all her Holy Trinity friends, and the too-many-to-mention Reverends providing spiritual guidance. Patricia is survived and mourned by her two sons Robert and Russell; three nieces and their families; 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She had an incredible life and had so many wonderful friends but there are some the family would like to thank for their assisting Patricia with her struggles. Donna and Joanne and Kent and Paul and Liz and Nancy. The family would like to thank Drs Gillis and Chandler, as well as all the other doctors and nurses on the third and fourth floor of the hospital involved in her care. The family would like to thank and praise Shelly and her crew of angels at Treasured Memories for providing Patricia a blessed refuge when she needed it most. A memorial service will be Monday, April 25th,2022 at 1 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Yarmouth. Interment to follow in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery.
