It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Owen Owens on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the age of 95 years. He was predeceased by the love of his life Nancy (Hannah, nee Malcolm). Dearly beloved father of John (Wendy), proud Papa of Katherine and Jennifer, and dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents Levi and Cora Owens, and his sisters Doreen and Joyce.
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 13, 1926, he was named Owen, in accordance with Welsh tradition, at the request of his grandfather the Reverend Owen Owens. Dad graduated from the University of Witwatersrand with a degree in Civil Engineering. While working on a project on the Zambezi River in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) he met an English nurse at the Victoria Falls Hotel named Nancy Malcolm (Mac to her friends and Nance to her family) who was working at a hospital in Wankie. They fell in love and Owen followed Nancy back to England where they were married in 1955. In 1966 the family moved to Canada, settling first in Toronto, then Ottawa, London, Oakville, and then finally back to Ottawa to be close to family and the grandchildren. Together Owen and Nancy travelled the world, made countless friends, and lived life to its fullest, they are now once again reunited.
In accordance with Dad’s wishes, a private family funeral will be held. As an expression of sympathy, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
