Having survived an abusive childhood, bullying in Public School, Noel was denied an education when the Winnipeg School Board expelled him early in Grade 9 for being gay. He then worked for the Winnipeg Tribune and Grain Exchange before moving to Toronto where he became the main male clothes model shown in the Timothy Eaton newspaper ads and catalogues in the early 1960’s and earning the title of “Mr. Timothy Eaton”. After that he became a true pioneer for the gay cause and was the “star” of the “Noel Bari Revue” which he originated… This vaudeville act consisted of four members all who were female impersonators. Noel was the lead act, and performed to sold out shows for years in SW Ontario. A move to Vancouver after his success in the “Revue” landed him into a 26 year career as a hairdresser at Sears Metrotown and Park Royal. He then switched careers to become a concierge for 14 years, mainly at 1500 Alberni. “Noel” had a quick wit, stunning looks, an enormous kind heart and a magnetic personality, all suited to his choice of professions. He leaves to mourn his sisters Marilynne and Maureen both of Winnipeg. His partner of 30 years, Robert, who misses him so much it hurts… Cremation ashes to be spread at a later date in the desert gardens surrounding his beloved Palm Springs home.
