Nicole Patrice Manley passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 11:30 pm in her home in Stratford, Ontario. She left her body while embraced by her husband, after an evening of singing and fellowship with her family and close friends.
Nicole was born in Toronto, Ontario on January 22, 1967 to her parents Murray and Sandra Davidson. Nicole was predeceased by her daughter Skye Isabella and father-in-law, Tom. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, John, and her 15-year-old son, Jonah. She is also survived by her brother Scott, mother-in-law Barbra, brothers-in-law Mark and Kevin, sisters-in-law Sylvie and Yujin, and nephews Konnor and Matéo.
For the first third of Nicole’s adult life, she worked as a counsellor and reflexologist, specializing in helping people who lost loved ones to homicide or suicide. In 2003, she married John, and fulfilled her dream of being the mother to the smart and witty Jonah Aaron Manley, whom she homeschooled. She was also critical in helping John write, edit, publish and promote his first novel, Much Ado About Corona: A Dystopian Love Story.
She was active in the community, helping organize human rights protests with Perth Public Sanity against the oppressive and unconstitutional COVID mandates. Indeed, ninety minutes before her passing, she specifically requested that she change into her “COVID-1984: Make Orwell Fiction Again” T-shirt.
Nicole enjoyed reading with her family, singing in groups, meditation and spiritual exploration. She particularly enjoyed historical fictions, Celtic and Vedic music and the metaphysical poetry and writings of Rumi and Rupert Spira.
Nicole had developed type-1 diabetes at the age of nine-years-old, and had been suffering from kidney failure for the last twelve. Using a variety of alternative therapies, she was able to extend her life and avoid many of the complications normally associated with her condition. Nonetheless, her health had devolved to the point that she had decided that her time had come. She discontinued dialysis treatment on September 9, 2022 and passed away happy and content eleven days later, quite eager to see what comes next.
A special thank you to Christian and Gauri Pillon, Karen Goldthorp, Michelle Qureshi, Pamela Gerrand, Patti Rothwell, Tash McCormick and all her dear friends who supported Nicole, John and Jonah, as she bravely transitioned to the other side.
You can read more about her life in this article written by her husband, My Red-Headed Sunflower and more about her passing in My Sunflower Has Blown Away.
