Obituary
On February 17, 2022 we lost our mother, grandmother and friend. Nettie (Tillie) Kitlar passed away at the age of 99 years at the Gilbert Plains Care Home.
Mom was born at Taylorton, SK in 1922 to parents Louis Skocylas and Magda Tanchuk. After a few years of coal mining the family moved south of Grandview. Mom had two sisters, Mary and Jean and four brothers, Pete, Alex, Paul and Walter. They all attended Halton School. At the age of 13 she went to work for the Stewart family. She later met Pete Kitlar and they were married on June 15, 1941. With Dad being in the army they lived in places from Montreal to Prince George. Later on they moved back to Grandview, where they spent most of their lives. After retiring to town, Mom became involved in the United Church, ambulance service, hospital and the DropIn Centre. Her favourite place to be was at the senior park, she spent many hours there from morning until night.
Nettie was predeceased by her husband Pete, daughter Janet, parents, brothers and sisters and son-in-law Waldymir. Left to mourn are her daughter Janice Stadnyk, grandsons Garry and Ivan as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Thank you to the staff at the carehome for the wonderful care she received during her short stay. Thanks to Sneath-Strilchuk for all your help and to Rev. Karen Kuzek for the service.
A private funeral service was held from Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, MB. Interment followed in Grandview Memorial Gardens & District Cemetery in Grandview, MB. Pallbearers were Ron Wachniak, Jerry Yeroschak, Ed Skocylas, Martin Yeroschak, Garry Stadnyk, Alvin Yeroschak.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to a charity of one’s choice.
