It is with profound sadness that the family of Neil Masterman announces his sudden passing on August 9, 2022 at the Juravinski Hospital. Neil was born on October 1, 1962
in Reading, England. Neil and his family immigrated to Canada when he was 7 years old. They briefly lived in Hamilton, then moved to Grimsby where he went to Lakeview Public School. They later moved to St. Catharines. Neil attended Grantham High School.
Neil was a graduate of Mcmaster University Ceramic Engineering class of 1988. Neil’s
most notable places of employment had been for Dofasco as a research engineer, JFYI as a quality assurance consultant, Stelpipe and Vesuvius.
In the past Neil had been a lover of alternative music, playing competitive games such as darts, snooker, role playing games, chess, backgammon and tournament bridge. He was an avid sports enthusiast. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, Toronto FC and Reading FC. His favorite golfers in the past had been Nick Faldo and Rory McIlroy. He had enjoyed playing most sports at some point in his life but tennis, badminton and soccer were perhaps the ones he loved most. In more recent years he had enjoyed outdoor walks, summer in the pool and exercising at the Y. Nothing made him happier however, than coaching soccer and playing golf.
For about the past 11 years, Neil had been diagnosed with a lesser known dementia known as frontal-temporal dementia.
Neil was predeceased by father Peter Masterman and stepfather Geoff Oxlade. Neil is survived by wife Denise Masterman (nee Misener), children Chelsea (Brett) and Hunter Masterman, mom Miriam Latter and husband Ken, stepmother Carolyn Masterman, brothers Shawn Masterman (Cathy) Jamie Masterman (Marcela), nieces and nephews Tim Masterman (Candance), Brandon Masterman, Jamie-Lynne Masterman, Jacob Cupka, James Hogue (Sharon), great nephews and nieces William Masterman, Keanen Hogue, Makyna Hogue, sister in law Linda Hogue, and cat Gingersnap.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all of the caregivers that have provided support to Neil over the past years.
