Neil Archibald Reid 2022

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Neil Archibald Reid on Sunday, August 21, 2022, in Hospice Cape Breton.
Born July 8, 1927, in Sydney, he was a son of the late Harris and Doreen (Williams) Reid.
Neil had a long and love filled life that anyone would have been lucky to have. He grew up with many siblings that he remained close to his entire life. Neil spent his life with his love Margie at his side through all that life had to throw at them, hard times and joy. Together they had five children, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews with whom they shared many happy memories.
Neil spent his working years as a meat cutter for 40-plus years at Currie’s on Alexander Street and the Co-op. Later in life, he enjoyed woodworking, traveling and most of all being around the people he loved. Neil loved to sing, listen to music and dance. He was kind, social, playful and resilient and will be remembered that way by those he loved and who loved him dearly in return.
Neil is survived by his wife, Margaret “Margie” (MacPhail) Reid; daughters, Karen (Barry) MacKinnon, Flin Flon, MB and Debbie (Bert) Hooper, Albert Bridge; son, Neil “Roddie” (Sharon) Reid, Front Lake Road; sisters, Evelyn Carver, Sydney and Velma (Richard) Wace, Tottanham, ON; brother, Lloyd (Francie), Sydney; sister-in-law, Helen Reid, Sydney; brother-in-law, Lorne MacLellan, Sydney; grandchildren, Maggie Clarke, Chrissy MacKinnon, Alexander Reid, Shawn Reid, Becky Hooper and Neil Reid; great-grandchildren, Mattie, Hollie, Nathan, Ben, Jackson and Olivia.
Besides his parents, Neil was predeceased by twin daughters, Christine and Doreen in infancy; siblings, Wilfred, Melvin, Cecil, Mildred, Irene MacLellan, Marjorie (Roger) MacQueen, Lena (Lew) Evans; and brother-in-law, Albert “Bud” Carver.
A funeral service will be held at United Heritage Church on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. The service can be viewed live by visiting the Sydney Memorial Chapel FaceBook page.
Memorial donations (If you wish) can be made online to Hospice Palliative Care Society Cape Breton County or donation cards will be made available at the funeral.
