Wright, Myrtle
Wright, Myrtle (Joey), nee McCracken died at White Rapids Manor on October 31, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Loretta M. (Brawn) and Arthur McCracken of Fredericton Junction,
NB. She is also predeceased by her husband Donald Wright of Fredericton Junction and Ottawa, seven brothers; Arthur, Lawrence, Vance, Harvey, Charles, James and Lloyd, and her best friend
Eugene Mitchell (March 2009). Predeceased by two sisters, Ethel McCracken and Helen Lavalley.
Lovingly known as Joey by her family and friends, she had a long and interesting career in the nursing field. Following High School she taught school for a short period in a one room school
in Mill Settlement West, NB, then entered the School of Nursing at Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, NS. Obtaining her Registered Nursing Diploma. Joey received her post graduate
education in Neurology and Neurosurgery from McGill University in Montreal and worked for Dr. Wilder Penfield; the top Neurosurgeon at the Montreal Neurological Institute. She then
worked in the operating room of the DVA Hospital in Calgary, AB. She returned home to be with her parents and worked with the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service in Saint John, NB.
Joey then spent two years with Trans Canada Airline based in Toronto and then she worked for the Canadian Army Medical Corp at Sunny Brook Hospital in Toronto. She had ten years with
the Ontario Ministry of Health as a Nurse Consultant in Rehabilitation and Geriatric Nursing Care in long term facilities. She and her husband retired to her parent’s home in Fredericton
Junction. NB where they enjoyed curling and cross-Country skiing with friends and family. Joey had a home built on the Bay of Fundy near Letang near St. George where she continued to enjoy
family and friends.
As was Joey’s request, cremation has taken place.
A sincere and heartfelt appreciation is extended to all who provided Joey with love and care. A special thank you to the staff and administration of White Rapids Manor for their excellent care,
concern and comfort. They made her feel welcome and at home. For this we are most grateful. They are to be commended for their professionalism and attention to detail. As mentioned
earlier Joey had served as a Nurse Consultant in the area of nursing care in long term facilities. She would have awarded the Manor with a glowing review.
A committal service will be held at the graveside on November 10,2022 at 2pm in Gladstone Cemetery, Fredericton Junction. A celebration of her life will take place at a later time.
Remembrances may be made to the Gladstone Cemetery or White Rapids Manor. (both in Fredericton Junction, NB)
