The family of Myrna (nee Johnson) Redick are sad to announce her passing on Wednesday, March 16th at Bluewater Health in Petrolia where she quietly slipped away at the age of 80 to join her beloved brothers and sister who have all predeceased her.
Married for 63 years to Orval, Myrna Redick knew a thing or two about love. Raising three sons and a daughter while organizing day to day life on the farm, Myrna was the source of calm in chaos. Describing her as the “wife of a farmer” doesn’t begin to share her lifetime of contributions: mail carrier, bookkeeper, cook, and general contractor, Myrna was the backbone of the day-to-day operations for the family.
Good natured and witty, Myrna loved her family, loved church, loved to sing and dance, and give her time volunteering and support for causes close to her heart. In her spry years, she also loved playing pranks on unsuspecting relatives. Known for her well-timed one-liners, along with her homemade rhubarb-and-strawberry pie, Myrna could put on a large meal and later take your money in a game of cards – all with her mischievous grin and a twinkle in her eyes.
Myrna was mother and grandmother to a large, vibrant family; she has four children, nine grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren: sons Richard (Rick) (deceased 1976), Norm (Analiza), Mark (Debbie), and daughter Lois (ex-partner Wayne who also loved Myrna to bits). Grandchildren: Allan (Glenda), Kelly (Ryan), Carrie, Jeremy (Amy), Laura (Mike), Bethany (Nathan), Karina (Bryan), Sabrina (Charlie), and Holly (Tim).
Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at 11:00 am at Smith Funeral Home. Those who wish to attend the funeral must each RSVP: signup.com/go/WWDErSJ. Myrna was a life-long attendee of People’s Church in Wyoming and Pastor Kevin Mahon together with Mark Redick will be sharing some words and songs in celebration of Myrna’s loving life.
Expressions of sympathy can be donated to Bluewater Health (cheques received at the funeral home or directly through the hospital website: www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/bluewater-health-foundation/).
